Last year the SCV PTA Council took a step to reduce printing of newsletters by sending the majority of their newsletters electronically. This year we've decided to share "green and healthy" tips with our PTA members. Why is it important for the PTA to share these tips? Simply because we want to teach our members how to stretch financial resources...we want to preserve the environment for future generations...we want to create a healthy environment for our children. All of these things are consistent with our mission of promoting the health and welfare of children.
Here are a few "green and healthy" tips for September:
1.) Walk or bike to work/school. You'll reduce gas consumption while improving your family's cardiovascular health and reducing your family's risk of obesity.
2.) Bring a reusable water bottle with you when running errands, exercising, attending school, or at work. Parents check with your child's school regarding particular rules about water bottles and containers at school. Drinking water is a healthy habit, so encourage your family to drink an appropriate amount of water each day. How much is an appropriate amount? Information varies, so you may want to ask your family physician what is right for you and your children.
3.) Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water. Wow!
We'll post a few more "green and healthy" tips next month.
